Career Guidance & Placement Cell (JKC)
Visvodaya Govt. Degree College-Venkatagiri is one among 211 Degree colleges in Andhra Pradesh, in which JKCs were established first time in the year 2006. In JKC the students are trained to learn the technical skills, soft skills, project management skills, problem solving techniques and communication skills by employing accelerated learning strategies.
Moulding the students to the perspective of corporate community is the main objective of JKC. It is a training programme that brings out and strengthens their inherent skills, plus equips them with employable skills that are missing. With a focus to provide quality human resources to the Nation, JKC joined hands with companies like Infosys, HCL, TCS, ILM, Mahindra Satyam, Wipro etc. under Campus Connect initiative Foundation programme and soft skills programmes are being organized to students.
JKCs thus became visibly hubs of student activity. With the state of the art computer labs, the centers became sources of vibrant linguistic platforms for the socially marginalized students of Government Degree Colleges to try their best to improve their employable skills, across the state. This novel scheme has brought about expected dividends in ensuring the skill-based learning activity move ahead successfully. More interestingly, ELF (English Language Fellow) trained English Teachers’ methodology (more of STT, Student Talk Time) became a useful tool in training the undergraduates on the platform provided by the Jawahar Knowledge Centers. This was a great beginning of a very practical activity to counter quickly, the poor communication skills of the undergraduate students in the State of Andhra Pradesh, which is useful even in their Higher Education. .
CONTEXT
The ever increasing prominence of India on the global map has lead to a growing demand for hard working and talented students good with computer skills, communication skills and industry related skills. The doors of global job market are opened to students who can speak fluently, compute quickly, write legibly and analyze logically. The conventional curriculum offered through B.A., B.Com and B.Sc., courses does not impart requisite skills relevant for dynamic job market especially that of emerging industries like Software and BPO. The Department felt the need to offer training to bridge the skill deficit of students and to enable them seize employment opportunities in job market.
